What kind of target buck are you bowhunting? Years ago I coined the term
of core or non core bucks to describe the general movements of target
whitetail bucks on small parcels. By determining which variety of buck
that you are bowhunting - core or non core - you can determine the
specific hunting strategy that you need for each target buck. While core
bucks can and should be hunted (if you don't want to lose them to your
neighbors during the rut) successfully throughout most of the season, a
non core buck can still be hunted just as successful, but only during
very specific and defined opportunities. Non core mature bucks account
for roughly half of all of my best bowhunting bucks because while they
didn't live on the parcel often, they predictably showed up during the
daylight when I could count on their movements the most. In order to
consistently and successfully bowhunt bucks every season, you should
make sure to understand the strategy of core or non core bucks so that
you know exactly how, when and why to hunt a specific target buck. Are
you hunting a core or non core buck? You really need to find out and
here is why...
